The field of implant dentistry has witnessed remarkable advancements over the past few decades, transforming the rehabilitation of partially and completely edentulous patients. Among these advancements, nbasal implantology has emerged as a revolutionary treatment modality, especially in cases of severely resorbed ridges and compromised bone conditions where conventional implant systems often face limitations. By utilizing the highly mineralized and infection-resistant basal cortical bone, basal implants provide a predictable, minimally invasive, and immediately functional solution for oral rehabilitation.
This library dissertation titled “Beyond the Crest: Cortico–Basal Implantology” aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the concepts, principles, biomechanics, surgical protocols, prosthetic considerations, and clinical applications of basal implantology. The dissertation highlights the evolution of basal implants from their historical origins to their current role in modern implant dentistry, emphasizing their advantages in managing atrophic jaws, medically compromised patients, and complex rehabilitative situations.
The objective of this work is to compile and critically present the available literature related to basal implants in a systematic and simplified manner, thereby helping postgraduate students, clinicians, and academicians gain a deeper understanding of this rapidly evolving field. Special emphasis has been placed on the rationale, classification, morphology, osseofixation principles, immediate loading concepts, and comparison with conventional crestal implants.
Through this dissertation, an effort has been made to explore how basal implantology extends the boundaries of conventional implant dentistry “beyond the crest,” offering innovative treatment possibilities with reduced surgical intervention, shorter treatment duration, and improved patient satisfaction.
I sincerely hope that this dissertation serves as a useful academic resource and contributes to further interest and research in the field of cortico-basal implantology.
